So here's a thing about towels: Buy white or off white and the best quality you can find. Often the issue is the dyes in colored towels giving the weird feel and causing less absorption. FWIW.
Like another poster said: It's hard to find good quality towels for a reasonable price. or really any price.
I think I'm not particular enough for this thread!
22 years ago I found nice cotton towels on sale at Wal-Mart, in a center aisle display, and they were really cheap. I think maybe $1-$2 each? I bought about 15 of them. I have used them ever since, and they are great.

I was thinking the same thing myself but to be honest I think I am just particular in a different way. I don't like towels that are 'heavy' or towels of various colors. I prefer a thinner towel and in white so I can add some bleach, I also buy the Walmart washcloths in white as well.
Ugh, I hate buying towels. Seems like they never stay soft after a few washings. I've bought many brands, different price points, and I'm never thrilled with them. I hate scratchy towels.
Thanks for starting this thread, SuzyQ. I'll try some of the recommendations. Now, if only I could find fitted sheets that would stay super tight and smooth on my mattress.

I found some excellent white sheets that do stay in place. Got them for my king bed at Sam's club. Just enough stiffness to be crisp but soft to the touch. I ended up buying the same brand for all of our beds.

But is your mattress extra deep? It seems sheet manufacturers now make sheets to fit mattresses that are 16-18" deep, and mine is 12". That's why my sheets won't stay taut.

Yes, they are deep. They do have a thick elastic band around the edge. Might hold the sheets on better?
Best towels we have had (and still own) are from Restoration Hardware.
Pricy.
Same - we managed to find a really good sale, but those things stay like new forever, feel great against your skin, and are super absorbent. They were still pricey on sale, but wow did we ever get our money's worth.
