I look online at her store circulars to tell her what is on sale for the week (I thought folks could figure that out
I suppose that's one way to do it. I'm more of a teach a person to fish, rather than giving them a fish (assuming they are physically and mentally well).
Requiring a free login doesn't seem to prevent you.
Sure. There's always the alternative to use the physical circular.
Apparently not, in this case. Unless I missed something in the OP.
All of these practices are doubling down on the "advantages" of having a loyalty or rewards card, and making it less and less feasible to shop without being a registered customer. Without anything like a real benefit for the consumer.
I'm already registered on the Shoprite site, and I still don't want to have to log in to see the circular. It's a pain in the butt. I hate they make you log in to see the circular. And I haven't done it since they made that change.
I tend to buy the same things week to week. I also buy whether what I want is on sale or not. If I want it. I get it. Finding out it happens to be a weekly special is just a pleasant surprise. I do pick up the circular at the store entrance and peruse it as I shop.
I also used to "shop the sales." I was dedicated....for two weeks. By week four I was over it.
I tend to be an all or nothing personality type. So sometimes I went to FIVE stores on one big all afternoon food shopping day. Of course, none of the stores were in the same shopping center. Because larger grocers don't do that. Sometimes I'd go to one of the stores just for two items. Another store for two items, maybe just one item. Half the shopping at one store, and 1/4 at another. And that was just mainstream grocers. I still had to hit the health food store.
I would get home exhausted and run ragged. Between the gas costs and value I put on my time...it just wasn't worth it to me. I don't need to save 5 or 10 bucks that much.
When I attempt to create account with my price plus card I get following error
"We're sorry, your information doesn't seem to match what's on file on your Price Plus Club card. Please double check the spelling of your name, address and phone number and make sure it's the same one on your Price Plus Club Card. For further assistance, please contact 1-800-ShopRite."
Waiting on phone for long time!
When I call the local store, no one is sure of anything???

You're wrong. There's plenty of stores where you can make purchases without using loyalty or rewards cards.
