Check the prices at the actual store if you do. We had a bad day and ended up getting KFC last night for dinner. I ordered on-line, got a message saying order went through, went to pick up and was told the store had no order for me, so reordered at drive thru. The total was over $4 less than my on-line order so I questioned if they had everything. Yes they did. Did a little investigating after we got home and ate.
Apparently KFC's on-line ordering is run thru 1 of the big delivery company's platform, and even though they have nothing to do with your order if you pick it up, you are still paying delivery prices. Bad, bad marketing decision on part of KFC. They should have sucked it up and paid for their own platform. We'll probably never go back there again after that experience. An over $4 difference between actual drive thru/store menu prices versus online ordering when you are picking up is outrageous.
Cost breakdown.
Item. On-line price. Drive thru price.
2 chix breasts. 5.98 versus 4.28
2 chix thighs. 4.98 versus 3.19
2 biscuits. 1.98 versus 1.69
Corn 2.29 versus 2.29
Fries 2.29 versus 2.29
Totals with tax 18.77 versus 14.71

I do this as often as I can, which is about 1/2 of the time I get food. The other times are fast food drive-thru, so that's just quick to just order then & there. (And I never get anything delivered. The last time I had food delivered was probably in the early 90s, if even that.)
I started using the apps and online ordering when COVID hit so I didn't have to give them my card, trying to cut down as much as possible on handling things others had touched. Plus if it's not somewhere we eat a lot then want the time to look at menu.
I have ordered food for pick up online, but I have never had prepared food delivered, we just go get it. I wouldn't want to pay a premium for it either.
I only order over the phone.
And , I live close enough that I can go pick it up.
The only place that I had deliver my food was Cowboy Chicken, and it was free.
Plus, they're only about a mile away.
You have to be careful ordering over the phone too. I read where some of the big delivery companies will advertise a false phone number that actually goes to them instead of the restaurant, and then you are charged their inflated food prices.

Same here. I also go to only a select few restaurants that provide food that "travels well". There's nothing worse than paying good money for a dinner from what is supposed to be a "pishy poshy" restaurant, only to get it home, after a 15-20 minute drive, and when you sit down to eat it, it's only mediocre, at best.

^^^^This.
Before COVID, we always would go to restaurants and dine in. Once COVID hit, we created accounts with Doordash and Grub Hub. We, too, like that we don't have to give them our CC number every time we order. I agree about having time to look over the menu before deciding what we want to have. One place we've been to pre-COVID, we actually now prefer to order online. This place (Honeygrow) uses touch screens in the restaurant and yes, you can add or subtract ingredients to your entrees. However, when it's busy, we always felt rushed when ordering. At least, with online ordering it's far easier to customize your meal.
