What are some strategies they can employ--like for example a guard who can punch and button and lock the doors when he sees a gang of hoodlums running toward the entrance. These thefts are going to cost us all eventually. Any thoughts?

I am serious. One instance of a person in a flash mob getting picked off by a sniper would stop any semi-intelligent ones from participating in future flash mobs.

If they are less than semi-intelligent, well Darwin's theory proves correct.

Can store security use deadly force in that instance? As much as I agree with the sentiment the sniper and whoever hired him would likely end up in prison. So not practical.

Exactly. They shut them down. They are already doing it.

Most of these cases involve hammers and/or sledgehammers, provides a colorable self-defense argument.

There also are cameras all over the place that will determine whether the perps are attacking anyone or just the display cases.

I'd like to see these bozos get what they have coming to them but a sniper would probably be deemed overkill by the legal system.

We are already seeing it with bottles of soap at markets. Ever thicker glass and better locks in display cases that can defeat the ordinary criminal with a sledge hammer. The criminal response would be armed kidnapping to force opening the displays at which point the modern District Attorney can no longer ignore the crime and push for real prison time

DAs need to charge anyone caught committing these types of crimes. Eliminate bail free arraignments for suspects.

Store owners need to vote for mayoral candidates that embrace law and order.

These crimes are a result of jurisdictions attempting to legitimize criminal behaviors. All of this is done under the banner of equity. Anyone who didn't see this as a result of not prosecuting lower level shoplifting isn't responsible enough to hold elected office.
