You may now have to spend more at Amazon.com in order to qualify for free shipping if you are not a Prime member, but it does not apply to everyone. Who has to pay more? Believe it or not, that seems to depend on the delivery address — the zip code where you live.

I wonder if affected ZIP codes are those rural areas without Amazon Logistics delivery, requiring delivery by USPS or UPS.

To the best of my knowledge, it has always been $35 here.

It just went up for us.
No problem, just wait longer to place my order!

It’s still 25 here because I just ordered a few things. I would just order more toilet paper and Kleenex if I needed to.

It went up to $35 a couple weeks ago and I'm not in a rural area at all.

It's still showing $25 for me. It makes no difference to me anyway. My average orders run around $50. A $35 minimum just means I might have to delay some purchases. Possibly I might have to order some smaller items on eBay instead to get free shipping.

I think it's a bad decision, but I get where they are coming from. Amazon gets over $30 billion a year from Prime memberships. It's free money that they don't have to do anything for. So of course they are going to do everything possible to keep that revenue stream coming.

Maybe, but not exclusively. It just went to $35 for me. I live in the suburbs of Baltimore; we have Amazon delivery here.

It looks pretty random according to mouseprint this week edition (see my link). Two zip codes from the same neighborhood could have different prices.

Don't have to do anything for? You think Prime Video costs nothing to operate? The actors on Amazon Originals act for free? Musicians donate their music and authors donate their books? UPS doesn't charge for shipping to Prime members?

Amazon spent $11 billion on video and music content in 2020, up from $7.8 billion a year earlier.
