CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Lots of people sell stuff on Craigslist, but even if you think you're taking proper precautions, sometimes transactions can go wrong.

That's what happened to one Charlotte man on my weekly Crimestoppers report.

Thanks for sharing the story.

I know someone who is in the process of moving and is getting rid of her stuff....and I said, 'sell it'.

She declined stating if the Goodwill won't come pick it up then it's going to go in the trash.
These are items from a stately home, piano, very expensive furnishings...
but she refuses to deal with 'the public'
because of things such as in your story.

Now I see why. Why risk having strangers come to her home....money isn't worth it.

People need to check websites like www.craigslistcrooks.com to make sure the people they are buying from or selling to on that site are who they say they are. That site has a bunch of people who have been screwed by crooks on craigslist. I suggest searching their site by the persons name, address, phone number, etc before buying or selling anything on there.

It is such a shame that a few really greedy ruthless people mess up a great connection like Craigslist.
