I'd never seen the show before but it sounded as if it had been filmed a while ago because they were discussing the "recent" change of ownership. Greatest BBQ joint in the world IMHO. Take Hwy 6 from Santee but you''ll have to ask directions, only open weekends. The real deal.
I remember going there as a boy and had amazing memories. Saw Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" a few years back and they profiled the restaurant. So I decided to take a trip back and it wasn't anything special. not sure if I overhyped it in my mind, but the place was dead empty for lunch on a Saturday.
Wow. Two years ago in October we had to fight for a seat. Sweatman's and Parker's near Wilson, NC, are tops in my book.
While I prefer a small dark combo from Parker's over anything Sweatman's produces, Parker's can't touch any of the good places in Eastern NC. They cook with gas and are just outclassed by many other destinations.
With that said, I again repeat that I prefer Parker's over Sweatman's.
Parker's is in Wilson and Sweatman's is in Holly Hill. Try Googling.
