Speak for your own city, then. I can think of many great schools in SC and great school systems.

SC is 50 out of 50.

We used to say "Thank god for Mississippi and Alabama or we'd be dead last."

Can't say that anymore.

Yes, and South Carolina has very poor rural districts to attribute a great deal of that lagging behind. We won't debate if that's the State's fault or the districts or whoever, but despite who is to blame for their lower achievement, it does exist in force in those areas.

It's different when you're living in the Upstate, where the population is much greater and school districts and schools are generally better. In the low country, you're going to get the coverage of the poorer districts and lower performing schools. It's well known across the state that Charleston's best schools are its private ones. This may be less relevant today than it was several years ago, but it's true. Ultimately, I think your view may be a little skewed. Maybe both of our's.

Yep,
The lilly-white private ones. Racism is alive and well.

Funny, even a Porter Gaud is behind many of our public ones up here.

Tax $. SC has never wanted its few rich to have to share with its abundant poor.

If I'm correct, Greenville County schools are at or above the national standards.

After reading your post, I can see that racism is indeed alive and well.

I know several families who moved here from other countries (cultural ethnicity and skin color never mattered) and had very little, yet worked extremely hard without complaining, just so their children would have the opportunity to be educated through private school. It is disgusting to see so many lazy U.S. born citizens who do absolutely nothing but suck every bit of free aid they can get out of our government, ultimately paid for by those of us who work hard, benefit society, and live honestly.

Which is of course why BJU of Greenville was the spearhead of McCain's "black baby" smear run by Rove in 2000. And why they chose SC to run that scam in.
