SC Governor signed long time proposed Work Zone law change this afternoon.

SIGNIFICANTLY increases Highway Work Zone fines and adjust points penalty:
When one or more highway workers (includes law enforcement & emergency workers in a Work Zone ) are present and in proximity to where offense occurs:
-Endanger 'worker' resulting in no injury: $500min-$1,000max fine.
-Physical injury to worker: $1,000min-$2,000max fine.
-Great bodily injury to worker: $2,000min-$5,000max fine.
-All fines mandatory and may not be waived or reduced below the min.
-No penalty if endangerment occurs due to mechanical failure, highway worker or other persons negligence.

Fine usage:
65% to Treasurer for work zone enforcement under Dept. of Public Safety.
25% to State Highway Fund to hire law enforcement to monitor Work Zones.
10% to the county/municipality.
