So while this is a project in Columbia, it does affect the whole state. From tourism in the Grand Strand and Lowcountry, to the major centers of Charlotte and Atlanta, to the link of shipping from the Upstate to the Lowcountry. So what’re your thoughts on the proposed fixes?
I think the fixes will be sufficient for Columbia's current growth pattern. The only interchange I'm having a problem with is the Harbison interchange. The current interchange is not the problem at Harbison, it's the first traffic light after the interchange that is the problem. I wish they'd spend a little more redo the frontage roads to create Texas style freeways to help with traffic movement in case of an incident. I have't seen anything official yet but I'm hoping lighting is involved though the state can barely keep up with it's current lighting. I also think the flyover interchange at St. Andrews would have been a little bit better traffic wise. Maybe a signature bridge would be nice too announcing everyone's welcome to Columbia. Instead of merging lanes or lanes that force you into traffic, having exit only or continuing merge lanes would be nice.

Where would the bridge be? Two over the Saluda (one on 26 one on 20)? Or 26 going over 20?
Also, though slightly unrelated, it will be done around the same time, I think they need to add entry and exit ramps to Koon Road when they widen I-26 past Chapin.
That is going to be a mess when they begin construction.
That's an understatement!
I mentioned in another thread, it's like performing open heart surgery on someone running a marathon.
Watching the computer animation (which is quite well done BTW!) the new ROW is going to be huge when adding in all the ramps and collector/distributor roads on all 4 sides of new turbine interchange.
I've driven the new turbine interchange in Charlotte (I-85 @ I-485) a few times and they (NCDOT and whoever the contractor was) did a great job.
There needs to be a new link between Harbison/Irmo and I-77 North area. Especially Killian Rd. A new bridge over the Broad River would help ease a lot of congestion on I-20 and drastically shorten access to both growing areas.
