Are the Polaris Ranger, side by side UTV's legal to drive on the Black Hills Forrest Roads. A few years ago the wife and I spent some time exploring the Black Hills back roads, mainly the forrest roads. We found some of the neat places in the hills and actually talked to some great residents who allowed us onto their property to look around at old mines and some mining towns. We would like to do this again and would like to use a UTV for exploring. As far as I know I think ATV's/UTV's are legal on SD Roads which I think include these forrest service roads in the hills. Any advice is appreciated. As a side note we are not the type to go off road and damage someone's property.

Some ATVs/UTVs can be made street legal. Working lights and safety devices are required.

There are also areas within the Black Hills that are permitted for ORV play.
Here are some links with information as far as permits and what and where you can explore.
