Being a farmer, I've become familiar with sometimes "wasting money" trying to raise things & understand the situation. That being said, I will continue trying a little bit of this & a little bit that, to make my land huntable for family & friends for free. I find that commercial interests oftentimes have a different outlook.
Sometimes I think we work to hard to find an answer to something we don't understand. I just completed a drive east on I-90 and north on I-29. I realize that a cruise down the interstate does not make me a country boy, but on my drive I noticed a lot of corn in the fields was not harvested. I also noticed that some of the elevators and grain storage facilities had corn piled on the ground. Tonight I checked the price of corn on the internet and saw that the price of corn has dropped about 40% since mid July. I know from my childhood that Pheasants and other birds like to feed on the corn that is dropped on the ground by the combines as the corn is harvested. It could be that the pheasants have had to go somewhere else to find food because harvesting has slowed due to the low price of corn.
Just a thought,
