Looks like SpaceX had a successful test yesterday afternoon of their Starship prototype, it will be interesting to see their progress as they proceed.

SpaceX's Starship SN5 prototype soars on 1st test flight! 'Mars is looking real,' Elon Musk says

Quote:
SpaceX just flew a full-size prototype of its Starship Mars-colonizing spacecraft for the first time ever.

The Starship SN5 test vehicle took to the skies for about 40 seconds this afternoon (Aug. 4) at SpaceX's facilities near the South Texas village of Boca Chica, performing a small hop that could end up being a big step toward human exploration of the Red Planet.

"Mars is looking real," Musk tweeted shortly after today's test flight.

Still think that they could really accelerate this whole space exploration thing by just building a space ship that looks like a flying saucer and be done with it

I think the US government doesn't want to give Elon and SpaceX the blueprints to the flying saucer technology just yet!

All Musk has to do is feed occasional scraps of "news" to keep the fans and worshippers delighted. It'd be another matter to peer behind the curtain and see how far they're actually behind in accomplishing anything significant.

At least NASA had the honorable approach of doing work without seeking attention and fanfare. They earned their glory, whereas Musk has to create that image.

How many other launch vehicles can safely land the first stage or catch their fairing to be reused? I'd say they've done some pretty significant things to reduce launch costs.

NASA isn't a public company looking for equity funding. They do all their "attention and fanfare" behind closed doors in Congress.
