Golden Corral is better in southern states in my experience. OCB seems like it's the better choice over all.

RIP Old Country Buffet!!! There's still the Timberlodge (or is it Timbercreek?) in the Valley, which is about the same quality. Now maybe they'll make room for a Chuck-a-rama. My husband and I still talk about the one we went to in Boise three years ago. SOOO much better OCB or Golden Corral.

Yeah, they are different with Golden Corral being more of a cheap steak house cafeteria with something beyond a salad bar that you can help yourself to, while OCB is more of a straight-up smorgy - but like the chefs on the morning TV shows say, think about it, how can these guys offer you all you can eat of, say, fish, at that price? Maybe by buying the cheapest fish on the market? And when was the last time you bought the cheapest thing on the market and were really happy with your purchase?

That said I do eat at OCB occasionally, but I try to empahsize the salad and veggies, and remember that I am not there to prove anything to anybody about how much I can eat at one sitting.

And even considering the price - awhile back they had steak as part of the dinner, if you wanted it. I got some, it was OK considering the price of admission. So part of the deal with them is they must have some pretty savvy buyers who get some good deals on food that turns out to be more chow than cuisine, but, all said, they do OK.

BTW OCB and Granny's Buffet are both changing to a different brand, maybe some small change in the menu, according to what I read last time I visited.
