For some reason, I latched on to Stan Musial even though I never saw him play except in All-Star games on TV.

The Baltimore Colts, especially Gino Marchetti, Jim Parker, and Big Daddy Lipscomb.

Wilt Chamberlain

Later as a young man (1966), Frank Robinson became a Bird and I really learned to appreciate just how great he was.

Harlon Hill. How could I forget! For three years he was incomparable, then he got hurt and was never the same. The man made Odell Beckham catches without the magic gloves.

The very first athletes I really remember rooting for were Bill Elliot, Bird vs Magic (pulled for the Celtics but no discounting the Lakers), Montana+Rice and Debi Thomas. Pretty much an I love the late 90s cast. Later on I would always rooted for the random white guy who could hit threes for the Bulls (Paxton, Kerr, whoever), the Braves when they finally stopped sucking and Pat Summit who for some reason always fascinated me.

What was your reaction to the news of Big Daddy's death?

I was a little too young to be aware of it when it happened.

Shock. I recall Lenny Moore saying that Daddy was terrified of needles.

This happened in Baltimore but Big Dad was the property of the Steelers at the time.
