I actually cheer for other countries that win the Gold Medal, it's nice to see another country winning gold medals for a change, if your in the USA do you ever hope the other country wins?

Yes, I appreciate the effort of the athletes regardless of the country, and I love to see displays of outstanding individual performance, even if that comes at the expense of an American. I want all the athletes to be on their "A game" at all times and hate to see it when an athlete cracks under pressure or unravels, especially in sports like gymnastics or ice skating where the mental aspect is very important.

Yes. It's called displaying good 'sportsmanship'. Recognizing an outstanding winning performance regardless of loyalties is what should be universal. Fortunately, most athletes involved in sports are much better at it than the public spectators.

I like the competition, no matter who is in it. There are many events in which the US does not have a strong showing, or no showing at all, and I still enjoy watching those events and I guess "cheering" for whoever.

As for a competitor vs. the US, it really depends on the event and how I view both parties. There are just some US people/teams I cannot stand (due to their arrogance and poor sportsmanship).

Yes, most often Canada, but then we watch on CBUT, a CBC channel out of Vancouver, BC. Much better coverage than the U.S. Networks, and actually live rather than recorded. We also apreciate a great performance regardless of their country, and we root for anyone but USA in basketball, because our team seems like cheating. I wish all athletes had to be amateurs.

Yes! I actually cried when Puerto Rico won in tennis. They are having such a bad time. They need the encouragement.

Of course, why not?

I don't care about the nationality, I only care about the athlete.

Now, if we're talking about team events, of course most of the time I root for my home country.

Except for men's basketball, sorry but I always root against the NBA pros. They've had a few close games already, and already people are making excuses ("oh, but the best players like Lebron James and Stephen Curry aren't playing" ).

It's hard to tell watching TV in the USA, but there's actually 306 sets of medals in the 2016 Olympics.
