Duh!

Exactly. NBC does not wish to confuse or alienate its audience.

They show the wind speed in MPH and the air temperature is given in Fahrenheit, and they give also distances in units the audience is familiar with.

If the OP was serious about going metric he would also complain about the temperature and the wind speed.

Yes, along with Myanmar and Liberia, the only two other "masculine" nations in the world.

No. Wind speed and temperatures are not in official Olympic records so they are less important.

BTW, precision instruments use millimeters (and nanometers) too, in the US. Since someone was talking about landing on the moon...

Fortunately they did not convert 400m to 1/4 miles.
People seem blissfully unaware that the UK still measures road distances in miles, speeds in MPH, and sells beer in pints.

It isn't just the US.

We are talking about Olympics.

China uses local units too (especially when selling food), but never in places like Olympic games.

NBC is not the official keeper of Olympic records. They are talking to people casually watching on TV.

What's your real beef? Do you have a table of Olympic records that you're constantly checking, and are you perturbed that you have to keep doing conversions?

OK, I get it. The OP is Chinese and is mad that NBC is using units of measure that are natural for 100 million viewers, but not for him.

Case closed.
