My boy was doing carpentry work for $8 an hour,Guy took his Job doing it for $4 an hour.

Jobs are hard to come by.My Son and his wife made $4K this year but they own their own place so it isn't too Bad.

If the employer is only paying $4 an hour, he should be reported......that's not even minimum wage and is illegal.

I don't know your son, so I am not saying he falls into this category, but most local non-Mexican construction guys will work long enough to buy a case of beer (or a bag of weed), and then they won't show up to work any more. Mexican crews are dependable. They will put on a new roof in 100 degree weather and work 12 hours a day to get the job done.

I knew a couple who were building a *nice* house using local workers and they framed in the walls and had the sub floor down and then they disappeared for a couple of months. Well, the rainy season hit and ruined the work that had been done, which had to be REDONE at a big expense. Mexican crews will work in the rain if they have to.

We have had local guys do some work, and we have been lucky, but we paid a premium price to make sure we got a good company to do it. Again, I am not saying your son is like this...just that there are lots of no-goods out there who either don't know what they are doing, or don't care.

OP, if you work hard and build a good reputation here in Springfield, you should have plenty of work.

My Son is a very hard worker. He was working on Rentals and Mechanic work for the Guy.

This year as he has for last few years has been working for Outfitters on the Niangua River.Daylight until after 6PM.Last year he made $8k,because of the economy he only made $4K this year. But like I say he owns his own place so he gets by.

I'm not going to even start how I feel about most of the Mexicans and I personally know several.

I'm not sure I would say that is accurate. When my parents' roof had massive hail damage, the company that fixed it sent out an all-Hispanic crew (I didn't ask if they were from Mexico, and it is highly prejudicial to assume that everyone who is Hispanic is Mexican). Also, the foundation for the outbuilding that they just completed was done by an all-Hispanic crew. In both cases, the work was done quickly and flawlessly.

I didn't ask to see anyone's license or green-cards, but I still say it is extremely prejudicial to assume that all or even most Hispanic people are automatically illegal Mexicans.

In the first place I never said that ALL were illegal. I said that most who are working for the construction places are illegal. You can believe it or not and NO, they aren't all Mexican because we have illegals from all over the world. It just so happens that the majority of the Hispanics that work in construction are from south of the border, even further south than Mexico, and a huge majority of them happen to be illegal. It does not matter if you believe this. It is a fact. My goodness, around here, it happens to be mostly illegals that are working for the poultry places also.
