My wife and I are coming up for a visit (job interview) to Springfield this Friday. Can someone help me out as to where to go......what areas of town to look? We have never been to Springfield and want to get a feel for the city. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on if your looking to rent something or buy something. The SouthWest side of town is growing and there are some excellent rentals, but you need to go really really southwest. Around the Kickapoo school district is a nice area for renting or buying. The area is off of South National, behind Cox Hospital. The southwest area by Kansas Expressway is very crime ridden. If you are looking for a rental, e-mail me and I can give you some pointers. I was a property manager for a few years, so I know the places to stear clear of. Good luck and have a safe drive!

I think on the SW side, it depends on exactly where you are. I worked in that area, knew people who live in that area and never felt it was 'crime-ridden'. There are a few streets might avoid certain areas of, but generally it was nice, especially the further West you went (again, other than a few areas). Now there are lots more businesses going in and the area seems to be improving--just pay attention to how the neighborhood looks, it will tell you a lot about the people that live there.
I would also suggest looking in Battlefield (the city and surrounding area) and Republic--they are not too far outside Spfd and have really nice developments going on.

Default another question...

Thanks for the replies....If you were trying to sell me on moving/living in Springfield, where would you tell me to go? What sites would you want me to see and explore? I've seen pictures of downtown........is it nice down there?

thanks again....

Do not move to the area around mt vernon and grant ave. it is rife with white trash and crime. the female cops are high quality, the male cops are lazy it seems. Perhaps that is the case everywhere but I have had to have quite a bit of contact lately and unfortunately with the police. The more sophisticated here might say: there's something here for everyone, but not a lot of anything for one person.
