Posted the below msg a couple of weeks ago and got NO response... Also posted the same msg on Memphis Forum and got a ton of awesome responses... I'm wondering if that's a sign that Memphis might be a better place for a young family to settle??? Just curious???

******************

My husband and I are currently looking at job opportunities in Springfield, MO and Memphis, TN. We have 3 young children (6, 5, and 9 mths) and would like to settle down in a family-oriented neighborhood with great schools (preferably public).

Any information on some good neighborhoods in the Springfield area would be greatly appreciated. We currently live in Southern California but were raised in the Chicago Suburbs.

We will possibly be relocating in early summer this year...

Thanks!

Schlottman there are some great neighborhoods in Springfield. Unfortunately not knowing your financial situation makes it harder to point which ones are which out to you. To cover them all I would say that SE Springfield is the nicest area.

Yes, I would take it as a sign that Memphis should be your new home. Memphis is a more diverse place than Springfield, so your children can grow up around all kinds of influences that will affect them in the future, molding and shaping their personalities.

And for you, there will be so much more to do. Moreover, think of all the serious shopping you can do.

If I were you, I wouldn't give Missouri a second thought.

With all due respect, your original post was very broad in scope and has been asked dozens of times in this section. That is why you didn't get any feedback.

My advice would be to spend some time searching through the mountains of available information about Springfield neighborhoods and then coming back with some more specific questions. I think you'll find that locals are more than happy to assist you, but you'll need to take advantage of the information that's already been posted first.

Because, unlike Memphis, ALL of the neighborhoods in Springfield are good ones.

Memphis didn't earn the nickname Mogudishu on the Mississippi for nothing!

Post Southern Springfield to....

I saw the post, but the question was pretty broad and I assumed (apparently incorrectly) that you would find the info on one of the many earlier posts or that someone else would answer.

It depends on what your looking for as far as size, price, ammentities, what you want to be near, etc. In the city, out of the city, no land, lots of land, etc.

The southern part of Springfield is probably the newest and fastest growing.
Outlaying towns like Ozark, Nixa, Republic, have seen a boom and are full of young families. All are reasonably close to Springfield (<10 miles). However, if you want shopping, nightlife, etc...then you may be happier nearer the city center. Springfield, for the most part, has lots of nice neighborhoods both in and near the city.

If I were chosing, I would not chose the older parts of Springfield in the northern areas, but then again, there are even nice neighborhoods up there.

Have you been to Springfield before? If not, I would highly suggest you visit here and Memphis (which is quite different, much larger, more diversified, etc.). Sperlings has a website that lets you compare a variety of topics side by side and, of course, City Data, also has lots of information about each city. Missouri has income tax, Tennessee does not. Sales tax used to be a big issue, but Missouri's has increased enough that it's not such a big gap anymore. Memphis has less winter but more humidity, etc.

Good luck on the hunt. If you want specific information, you might want to ask specific questions..most of the folks on this forum are very helpful and welcome newcomers (there are a couple of well known exceptions..LOL)
Some of us are even from California!
