We are looking around for a winter home. What we have discovered is that outside of eastern Washington high speed internet is pretty rare. California and Arizona are pretty dismal....1 mbps is not high speed!!

We have fiber to the home and 100/100 up and down. And a fairly decent library system for a rural area.

I noticed that Utah has a statewide public fiber optic project. Has that been started in St. George??

What is the current internet availability??

Also how is the library system??

Thanks....in advance.

The "statewide" fiber optic project you're referring to sounds like UTOPIA and/or UIA. That's an alliance between 16 Utah cities to install/upgrade fiber optic services. St. George is not a member of that group.

St. George, like most Utah cities, has a very good library (Washington Co.) which is about 1.5 miles NW of The Temple. It offers hard-copy (read: books) as well as digital/online services.

There are a handful of major high-speed internet providers in St. George along with multiple smaller (local storefront) providers.

Thanks.....we will have to stop and check out the library.

The decision not to join the fiber network is a disappointment. We have been traveling for four months this winter and living without fiber is VERY PAINFUL. Slow speeds, outages, etc. etc.

Then there is buying all those McDonald's shakes so you can use their wi-fi!!
