I am looking for weather information for late September visiting the southern Utah parks. I know it will be rainy season but how long does the rain last each day? Would it be better to come at a different time say a few weeks later?

I've never thought of late-September as being particularly rainy in southern Utah. I'd say that more often than not, you'll have warm, sunny days and cool nights. That's actually my very favorite time to visit. Any time up until the end of October is usually very nice, actually. If you're visiting Zion, it will be warm throughout October. Bryce will be cooler as its elevation is much higher, but October is usually nice there, too. You've picked a great time. You may have a bit of rain, but not as much as in the springtime or during the summer Monsoon season.

There likely won't be any rain in late September. The monsoon season ends in early-mid September. The rain doesn't really start until November(ish).

I agree with Katzpur's comments. It might even be a bit on the warm side when you visit. October is usually a better time and you get the added perk of seeing all the fall colors throughout the canyons.

Either way, whichever park(s) you end up visiting, September should be nice weather.

Technically there is no rainy season in southwest Utah. Yes we have the occasional downpour which creates flash floods but they are not every day and definitely not something to concern yourself about regarding a trip here. You most likely won't see any rain at all in September, but if you do see something in the forecast, use your common sense and don't hike somewhere that you could get caught in a flash flood.

I have friends who visit from other states or even other countries and their favorite time to come is mid September to late October. The temps are usually pretty much perfect at that time

I'd agree with respect to Zion. Bryce, however, could be pretty darned chilly by the end of October.
