Maplewood-Richmond Heights school district is OK, but not one of the better ones in the area. Don't get me wrong, it's a great area and I really like Maplewood/RH a lot. But the schools aren't as highly regarded as neighboring districts (Clayton, Brentwood, Ladue, Webster Groves, Kirkwood etc...). I do know some MRH grads who are doing well for themselves and they liked the school.

Old Town Webster Groves is a fairly expensive place. I would imagine most properties in that area would be 350+ but I am not too sure. The homes and that area are very very nice. And you pay for it. If you really like older large frame homes with big front porches, you will love the area. The houses in the area remind me of the house in Father of the Bride

Also, if you ever move to WG or K-Wood and have kids, be prepared for them to NEVER LEAVE WG or K-Wood. Seriously, it is really odd how people that grew up in those towns never leave them. They are nice, but not that nice.

^ yep, Webster and Kirkwood have a strong sense of community and community pride. The housing stock is very charming, on a street grid, and both communities actually have a downtown to identify with. Very small town in midst of a large metro area.

Honestly, schools were pretty much the only reason we didn't move to Maplewood. I think that's the big reason that homes are more affordable. Love the area though, we go out there often.

I'd say that generally, someone looking for a 'good' school district would not be satisfied with Maplewood's school district. The test scores are barely at the state/national average--and the averages are pretty pathetic as it is.

Haha, funny you mention this. Fiance and I aren't even St Louis natives, but he's already said that if we stay & raise kids in the St Louis area, he doesn't want to leave the 63119 zip code. It really is a great area. Lots of community pride, and our neighbors are awesome. I can understand why people stay.

I'm from West County but I lived in the famed 63119 for several years in a house with two roommates and then moved to my own place. I enjoyed my time in WG but honestly I enjoyed living in Maplewood about 50 times as much as I did WG. Maybe if I had children I would feel differently but I have never seen what the big deal was about Webster or Kirkwood. They are just suburbs, drive in and drive out.

Webster Groves and Kirkwood are distinctly different than most other suburbs in St Louis. Short commute to downtown, built on a grid, walkable, good schools, more neighborhood/local feel in terms of restaurants and bars (I'm not sure where the nearest TGIFridays/Applebees/Olive Garden is...which to me, is a good thing). To me, there's no difference between Ballwin, Wildwood, Chesterfield, O'Fallon, etc (except price)...but there's a big difference between those towns and WG/Kirkwood. Otherwise, we'd be telling the OP to live anywhere in West County/St Charles County.

Without kids though...you're totally right on. I don't see any point in living here. I loved the Central West End and Clayton way more. But of course, we couldn't afford a house in Clayton, and fiance wanted to buy a house we could stay in long term if needed (city living got chopped).

^I agree completely. Suburbs with cul-de-sac streets sans a downtown/main street don't have the same sense of place or community in my opinion. That's one reason there is a shift back to cities across amerca as well as a push for "new urbanism" design.

Kirkwood. Very good schools in walking distance. I can easily walk to multiple bars and restaurants, the farmer's market, pizza places, the public library, and Kirkwood Park. Kirkwood is pricey compared to some areas but I'm sure you could find something in your range.

I guess in my college years I ran into too many "high school heroes" in WG and K-Wood and it left a bad taste in my mouth. You know the type; those guys that were hot stuff in high school and never left for college or went to Meremec and then hung out at the bars like they owned the place. If I were raising kids I would never want them to stay in the same place forever and end up like those clowns.
