Is it cool? Working class? Crazy? Boring? Historic? Great schools? Rich?

What comes to mind when you hear someone say "I live in Webster Groves"?

Thanks!

Moderate or liberal, educated, laid back, tasteful, sometimes understated wealth, walkable, wooded, clean, quaint. Most midwestern cities would kill for historic old pre war suburbs like this, they usually don't exist away from the coasts or Chicago. Makes me think of something you would find in metro Boston.

webster is a pretty awesome area, and fairly diverse for a suburb. As mentioned it's a fairly old suburb, and has numerous century homes. It's inside the "beltway of 270" and offers quick access to downtown, while still giving you that small town feel. Diversity comes with the aid of the university, and it has an excellent farmers market, plus numerous shops and restaurants that aren't chains. All in all, it's a great place in the St. Louis area, some parts of it are more desirable than others but all in all, i'd put it on the "look at" list.

Not sure what diversity you are talking about, but there is a well-established predominately African-American area of that community in North Webster/Rock Hill that has been there many generations that really has nothing to do with the university. I'm sure the university brings in its own diversity as well.

I'd say the area has it all, from blue collar to quite wealthy. I believe the public schools have a good but not great reputation in academics.

Webster Groves has a very good reputation. Do a search on this forum for Webster Groves and you will see what I mean. It's probably the most recommended location in the entire area, particularly for people looking for suburbs with character and charm.

diversity as in students of all different walks of life, demographics, and areas of the country. Not simply the mostly "segregated area" of Webster Groves where the local African American population lives.

Webster Groves is one of the top suburbs of choice in the St. Louis area for the middle class progressive set.

If walkability, historic and varied housing stock, great schools and a community feel are important to you, WG should be at the top of your list.

It's a nice middle-class part of town with nice old trees and a mix of blue and white-collar folks. Webster, or West of there, are some of my favorite neighborhoods in the city. If you head East into Maplewood it gets a bit rough, but just East of Maplewood you enter "The Hill", which is a really nice area of the city, thanks to the heavy Italian influence. Living on The Hill was the only time I felt comfortable leaving my door unlocked and windows open while I ran out shopping, or overnight. I never felt that safe anywhere else so close to downtown.

Very litte of Maplewood is what I would consider rough any more, but everyone has their own tolerance for these sort of things.
