My wife and I are going to be moving to St. Louis at the end of the month. We found a house on Craigs list that looks a little too good to be true to me. It states that it's in the heart of The Hill, and is a 3 bedroom for $900. I thought that a house on the Hill would go for more than that. The cross streets are Dagget and Edwards, zip 63110.

Yeah definitely possible as houses on the hill are usually smaller. Awesome neighborhood...I'd love to live there one day.

That's the hill. Not really sure what one would consider to be the heart of the hill, but there's a park a block away named after Yogi Berra, you're around the corner from Lorenzo's and within a block or so of Zia's, Giola's, etc. Yep, that's the Hill.

900 seems like a good deal, but not crazy. CL makes me a little leery. It's a good idea to always find out who owns the place to make sure you're not getting scammed by someone who is "showing" the place as an owner, but doesn't really own the property/has not legal right to rent it to you.

$900 is a totally normal price point for that neighborhood. I've seen small homes there as low as $700.

1 bath right?

Looked at the ad online. 2 bath, enclosed back porch, LR, DR, and full basement w/ upper floor terrace in addition to 3BR. Seems a bit nicer than the type of places that go for $700-$1000 in that area. Not a ridiculous low ball rent price though.

^Based on that, that's a really good price. If I were guessing it's because the landlord is old, owns the home outright, and hasn't raised their rent much over the years. I had a friend in Chicago who rented an apartment from a little old lady for at least 25% under market price.
