This may be a dumb question. I am looking at houses in the area and find houses in ladue, Frontenac, des pres, olivette, etc. beautiful! I’ve never had a big yard growing up and am concerned the yard may be too much for us. I don’t want to be stuck with it if we cannot handle it. I am looking at houses with 0.3 -0.4 up to almost an acre. How often do you have to cut the grass? We will likely need help. Do people typically hire companies/contractors? Any other details I should know? Thanks so much for reading this and for your info.

We pay a lawn mowing service. $35/ cut, once a week during the spring, through summer. Our lot size is .4 acres. We are in one of the neighborhoods you mention. Last year we didn’t turn on our sprinkler and the grass was mostly healthy, so water bills effect was negligible.

I previously lived in Phoenix, and over there the current rate for the front yard (backyard is desert landscaping) is $60/ cut. During the summer, my water bill used to increase by $100/ mo for the summer… to have a grass yard truly is a luxury.

Also… about 50% of the ppl in my subdivision pay for a service. Most ppl with service seem to use the same company.

I don't water my lawn, and surprisingly the grass stays healthy and relatively slower-growing (due to the slight lack of water). I typically do one cut every two weeks, all by myself. Mine is 0.34 acre in Clayton, and the companies here charge $60 per cut due to the location, which I think is too much.
