Hey I may be relocating to St. Louis for a job and I'm a huge hockey fan so I would like to live in maybe walking distance of the arena. I have never been to St Louis before though. How is the area around the arena? Is it safe? I'm really just looking for a studio or apartment. Thanks for the help!

It's called Scottrade Center. The Arena was demolished years ago.

Scottrade area seems to me to be alright, but I don't live there. I've walked between Scottrade and Union Station and taken the train to the Edward Jones Dome before and never felt unsafe, but I was with a large group of people.

From my experience it seems alright but I've never lived there.

You've a few options in that specific area - might google for apartments, St. Louis, downtown. I would consider it a safe area, but also have not lived there, just visited. Might also check out: St. Louis Communities - Downtown Lofts and Urban Living

It's a safe area, though pretty quiet/dead over there outside of events at the Scottrade Center. Downtown St. Louis is pretty small, so I would keep all of it in play as being close by.

And if you lived downtown you could always take the MetroLink from a downtown station to Union Station and Scottrade is just a couple of blocks away.

Your options are either the Cupples Lofts or one of the other loft/apt buildings on Washinton Ave. The Cupples is only a few blocks and anywhere on Washington is a short walk or train ride to the arena.

I would stay on Market or Washington. Although Market is much closer to the arena. I like the STL downtown, but would have trouble living there (I hate being asked for change every time I turn a corner - as I am not exactly rich myself ). Of course, that is basically any downtown nowadays unfortunately.

Very few residents of St. Louis live "downtown", unless you want a $2000 a month open space/ loft. Live by a metrolink station, that would be your best bet.

$2000/month seems like an exaggeration to me.

I think Merchandise Mart and Cupples Station Apartments you can get for $800 a month or less. But sometimes it's also income-dependent.

I suppose some of the most luxurious cost $2000/month, but I'd think $1000/month or less is doable.

A bit off topic...but I noticed when taking the Metro downtown yesterday the the signs along the platform at the Civic (ScotTrade) Center exit still read Kiel Center...how long has it been since it was called Kiel? Thanks!
