We bought our house just south of 40 on December 29th last year. I can't wait to start using 40 for the first time on Monday. I'm curious to see what the "normal" traffic patterns are like around our neighborhood. Anybody else looking forward to it?

Yes, I am definitely looking forward to it reopening. I am more curious as to how much the local roads in the mid-county area (Forest Park, Clayton, Hanley, Brentwood, Eager, Big Bend, Manchester) will clear out once commuters start using the new stretch of highway. Over the past 1-2 years many people have found alternative routes to and from work, and hopefully they haven't found them to be too enjoyable and will go back to highway driving again!

I was thinking the same thing. That some people may be reluctant to go back to the interstate based on the new routes they tried. I hope that's not the case, though.

I think everyone will flock to I-64 now-- it's all nice, new, and smooth. Who could resist? Forest Park Parkway sure got a beating this last year. It would take me sometimes 15 minutes or more to get from DeBaliviere to Big Bend traveling eastbound during rush hour. With a screaming baby in the backseat. I won't miss it.

What is this farty you speak of? I sure am ready for 64 to re-open though! It's been a long time coming, and this past year has sucked with it closed.

I have mixed feelings about 40 opening...when I moved into my apartment in August (about 3 blocks from the closed portion of the highway), and kept my windows open, the only thing I heard at night were crickets and frogs! Now it will be truck traffic on the highway when the weather warms up.

BUT, it will be awfully nice to be able to zoom right downtown or to the west, and to be able to cross Oakland on foot in the evening without having to dodge commuter traffic! I'm also running the 5K on the highway before it opens on Sunday...should be a fun experience to have a whole interstate to run on.

This will be great. I will no longer have to look at the ugliness of I-70 to get into the city.

Not looking forward to the increase truck traffic - good for local business, bad for commuters.
