Greetings everyone. My wife and I just moved into Dewitt 2 weeks ago. After spending almost the entire two weeks cleaning the house, we are ready to take a break. We are thinking of taking the puppy to a park, hopefully with a nice view of the water, to have a picnic. Any reccomendations of location will be much appreciateD!

Besides the usual Onondaga Lake Park (there's water but not much of a view), Oneida Lake and Lake Ontario (check out Southwick Beach, when you get a good day to yourselves), we like to go to:

Upper Onondaga Park, in Strathmore.

Gypsy Bay in Cazenovia. (Head south on 92, through Manlius, continue on until you reach Rte. 20. Take a left onto Rte. 20 and Gypsy Bay park will be on the left, at the edge of the open field... across from Lorenzo Mansion and down a little way.) You can picnic, wade, swim and bring the puppy in too... it's a good place to bring a float, tie it to a tree and lie back in the sun.

Maybe Ryder Park in DeWitt, Longbranch Park north of Onondaga Lake Park, Green Lake in Tully, Breitbeck Park in Oswego(great sunsets off of Lake Ontario) and Emerson Park in Auburn.

I second Upper Onondaga Park in Strathmore -- it's a beautiful park with small lake & gazebo. You can also get some spectacular views of the city from the park, and especially from the nearby reservoir roughly 3 blocks to the west.

Let's not leave out Jamesville Beach County Park - plenty of picnic areas and wooded trails for walking the dog. There's also a small picnic area along the Erie Canal near the "back entrance' of Green lakes State park. It's just a handful of tables and is very low key.

Can't forget Oneida Shores Park near Brewerton and there is a cute park on Oneida Lake right on Lakeshore Road in the Town of Cicero. I believe it is a town park with a tiny beach too.

Cayuga Lake State Park, which is on the northwest side of the lake and not a long drive. The picnic area is very private and right up on the lakefront.
