Been doing my homework lately, driving around the entire city of sycracuse to see what areas looked right for my growing family. Some nice areas looked a little too close to rough pockets but I found this lovely neighborhood near Hiawatha Lake. Anybody know if theres a name for that area? Nevertheless.. Loved the tree lined streets, location seemed good and the houses were just my style. I believe the local high school is corcoran, Is that a good school? Any information on that area would be great

That's Strathmore and it is very nice. Corcoran High has improved a lot and is known for it's very good IB program. Here's some information you might like:DotNetNuke

Some other areas of the city you would like are Sedgwick on the Northside, the Scottholm area and all of the Meadowbrook neighborhood on the Eastside, the South Valley neighborhood on the Southside, The Northside north of Grant Boulevard, Eastwood-especially south of James Street and around Teall Avenue, the neighborhoods around the University like Outer Comstock, Westcott-south of East Genesee Street(or the area south of the near Eastside neighborhood as it is called sometimes) and the University neighborhood, Lincoln Park/Hill, most of the Salt Springs neighborhood and the Tipperary Hill neighborhood in the Far Westside neighborhood. there are some other nice areas in some of the other neighborhoods too. Here's a neighborhood map to check out:

I hope this helps and if you have any other questions, just ask?

Yes, that's the Strathmore neighborhood.

Southwest of downtown you basically have two choices: 1) Strathmore 2) Tipp Hill...........Any other neighborhood on that side of town aren't someplace I'd suggest raising a family.

Really, I’d be wary of many neighborhoods in the city since whenever you go, you are only a few blocks from a rougher neighborhood. And with the national economy the way it’s trending, crime in poorer parts of the city will only get worse. As a region in general, most families settle in the suburbs.

If you're truly a city person, and can't do without a city lifestyle I’m probably not the person to ask. I tend to scare (or steer) people away from the city. I want newcomers to experience the best this area has to offer and IMO 98% of the city can’t beat the quality of life found in most of the Syracuse suburbs.

Actually, Meadowbrook is like living in an urban suburb in a sense. Same with the South Valley, Eastwood in the area I mentioned, the Northside in the area I mentioned, parts of Outer Comstock along Comstock Ave. south of East Colvin, Salt Springs in the Mountainview Ave. area and Westcott, especially around Barry Park and the Co-op Market. Sedgwick and Strathmore are generally fine, along what I mentioned before.
