So, I took the summer / early fall off from work and checked out Arizona, Las Vegas, and California. I always liked Cali and nearly moved there but the job was a Craigslist scam. It was a recruiter that supposedly got you a job but you had to pay the fee rather than the job. Not happening. I still like Cali but I'm good here too.
So I went to Vegas and Phoenix and decided I could never live there. NC same thing. Rather than say what I didn't like and start a flame war, I will say what I like about here. Sense of place. No pawn shops on every corner. Sprawl does not exist on side roads, main roads, tertiary roads, etc. History. No cookie cutter homes with cinder block walls for fences. People who actually think and don't just react with anger.
Taxes might be $6000 a year here, but it creates social safety nets. I'll pay it all day. If you fall in Vegas, you're done. Try to find Jesus or end up in jail. No one wants to hear your sob stories. They have worse ones. Landscapes there are brown dirt and here I pass pumpkin farms and bright fiery trees on my way into Sullivan County.
Lets say this: if they could pay someone $2.00 an hour in these red areas, they would. No problem. Its dog eat dog. Like Ivan Drago said, if he dies, he dies. No one cares. For supposed followers of Jesus, they don't seem to have a problem with women becoming prostitutes to support their kids or people working 3 jobs to live.
I'll leave it at that. It doesn't work for me.
As for rent, they got you after you move in. Jack up the rate, most people don't want to move after they just moved in. Well, I did. Moved in with my fiancee. Life is easier when you combine finances anyway.
I get what you are saying and thanks for the explanation.
I was just thinking, what are some buildings or places that aren't around anymore that you think were bad ideas to get rid of? Thinking about this place was the inspiration for the question: CINEMA SIGHTLINES
That new Runnings store in Rome is a must see for all straight males. Don't know a lot about it but near as I can tell its a small chain with at least Rochester and Rome. It's one stop shopping for men.
Runnings started as an automotive supply store in December of 1947, when founder Norman A. “Red” Running opened his first store in Marshall, Minnesota. An advertisement was taken out in the Marshall newspaper to announce the prestigious event.
Today, Runnings operates over 30 retail stores throughout Minnesota, the Dakotas and Montana. We sell farm and livestock equipment and supplies, hunting and fishing equipment, housewares, automotive goods, plumbing, electrical, clothing, footwear, hardware, lawn and garden supplies, paint, pet supplies, sporting goods, and tools.
The Runnings team is now over 1,500 strong and still calls Marshall home to its corporate office and flagship store. The company has undergone incredible change over the years, but one thing that will not change is owner Dennis and Adele Reed’s commitment to serving our customers with quality merchandise at great prices and excellence in customer service.
We wish to thank all our customers for supporting us over the past 6 decades. We’re excited about the next 60 years of serving the needs of farmers, homeowners, ranchers and hobbyists throughout the upper Midwest.
