I’ve got the Dewitt area and Liverpool area on my radar for a move. Any thoughts on these school districts for a family with boys with special needs (anxiety/depression; high-functioning autism)? I’m more interested in positive social environment, nurturing teachers than college prep and rigor.

I’ve read the stats- more interested in personal experiences.

Does either have a more obvious “soft” feel?

Thanks!

When you say the DeWitt area, are you referring to Jamesville-DeWitt or are you including parts of the town in the East Syracuse-Minoa SD? The latter SD would be a good choice for those with children with special needs.

I do know someone with a child with autism that is in the J-D school district and it appears that they are fine with the services they get.

Also, what do you mean by a more “soft” feel?

Hopefully, someone will chime in with more specific information.

I would include the East Syracuse- Minoa area.

By soft, I guess I mean the opposite of everything that is rough: hallway fights, metal detectors, language, intimidation, the need to constantly look over your shoulder, etc).

^You wouldn’t have to deal with those things at those schools or if so, it is very minimal or well hidden.

I would say to look into the ES-M district first. Is there a type of neighborhood you are looking for or is there a particular budget that you want to stay within?
