I personally prefer paper books. I'd rather give somebody a card to a recipient who can buy books worth what a Kindle and all the cost of downloads. My favorite book store is Hastings, but if I'm at another town that doesn't have Hastings, I'll go to other books stores.

I was asking some friends about this device. They asked their college age kids who said the Kindle Fire is what they want.

What do want her to use it for? Games, internet, etc? Or just reading? The Kindle Fire looks like it has promise... it'll be released on 11/15 but is available for pre-order.

For those that are against ereaders b/c the books are expensive, there are many library options that lend. If your local library doesn't have a big selection, the Free Library of Philadelphia sells memberships to those who live outside PA for $35/year. They have over 7K titles, many many new releases and popular books.
