Can anyone tell me what are the ordinances in Brandon for keeping backyard chickens? I do not live in a deed restricted development. I have a little less that an acre (like 7/8ths) I do not plan to keep any roosters only hens and no more than 4. Would this be governed by the City of Brandon or Hillborough county ??

Hillsborough County. Brandon is an unincorporated area and has no government whatsoever.

I found this article online which basically says they are allowed in Tampa as long as they are not a nuisance.

More and more people are getting into the backyard chicken craze - St. Petersburg Times

no offense to the OP, but this is another good reason for HOA....how would you like to save a lifetime for your dream home only to have a neighbor build a chicken coop right next door?

Lots of people don't mind chicken coops, etc. I grew up in the heart of Tampa, and back then most people even had other farm animals (ponies, cows) in their backyards. Even after those weren't allowed, we still always had rabbits, chickens, and various other birds/animals. I loved growing up like that.

For those who don't like this, there are plenty of gated communities with their Nazi-esque HOA's and myriad of ridiculous rules one must follow Different strokes.....

I would not want to live next door to this. I can only imagine the noise those chickens would make.

And the stink.

Why can't people just get a cat?
