I have decided to take the plunge and move to Florida without a job. I have savings and a free place to live when I get there. Does anyone know of any Staffing/Temp agencies in the area?

I am not having any luck trying to get a job down there from up north here and do not want to spend another winter with the snow, sleet and other winter messes.

I don't even care if I have to have 2 jobs, as long as I can be near my family and away from the cold.

Where in Florida are you moving to? Although this advice may too late: if you have a job where you are living now, don't quit it and come to Florida. Wait until the economy picks up. Things are very tough here (an understatment of classic proportion). I would never quit a job in this economy.

This sounds like a great idea. It appears that those goofy Bealls commercials are now played up North, so people can see that all Floridians really do is hang out on the beach or on boats and it's always sunny.

Hi Lovesummer. I am sorry that you have only received "flippant" answers so far. I can't help you regarding the temporary agencies, but you did say you have savings and a FREE place to live when you get here, and that you would also be near family, so I think you will be fine. That will certainly buy you some time for getting some kind of a job. What city did you decide to move to - I think you were originally inquiring about Lakeland.

Kelly Services is a temp agency that I've used in the past. If you have any office/business experience and/or a degree you should apply at some of the Fortune 500 places in the area, such as Raymond James and Tech Data.

If you have any technical experience, TEKSystems is a good one - I used them in Nebraska.

My answer was not "flippant" -- I was as serious as a heart attack. If you are employed it is foolish to give up your job and come to Florida in this economy. It would irresponsible to advice anything else.

There are a few reasons I am moving down to Florida. First is the main reason: My parents are there and they are not getting any younger or healthier - I want to be there to help them and not have to worry that I cannot get there fast enough because of bad weather grounding flights. Second, Where I live right now I have no family for at least 200 miles. I have friends that I made while being here, but it is not the same as being with family or my friends from back home. Third, Yes I have a job but I think if I keep doing this job I will lose my mind, I cannot do this for another year. Fourth, I cannot take another winter - the sun doesn't shine much in the summer let alone the winter - it is very depressing and as I said, I don't have family close so I must travel for all holidays.

I am not to picky where I end up. I will be starting out in Spring Hill but that is not where I have to stay. I am open to Lakeland, Tampa, Orlando and many other areas. I would like to be 2 1/2-3 hours from Spring Hill - but if something came up that was a bit further I would go for it. One area I do not want is Miami - just not where I want to be.

I am willing to work 2 jobs if need be. Sometimes being with family is more important than a job. I am not a high maintance person, I don't need a lot to live on, I like being outside and don't need to spend lots of money on the things I like to do. Life is too short to not take chances and I am tired of letting life pass me by.
