I know of Bradenton. A friend of mine use to live there, but I didnt actually get to see more around it. Im just reading all these posts and everybody has something bad to say about the Tampa area. If only they went up to some small town in upstate ny. They would be coming back and Praising Tampa haha.

I actually moved from Rochester (Spencerport). I HATE IT HERE. I got sick of it after 2 years and I am going to move back after college.

I just so happen to be visiting upstate NY about 30 miles south of the Canadian border. It's not so bad - of course, haven't seen the winters - don't expect to every be here during the winters to visit.

Back to your question about where to live- don't think South Tampa is near any beaches like you wanted. Most nice beaches are in St Pete, Bradenton, Clearwater. Not sure what you're budgeted for but the Hyde Park and Harbour Island are nice - many gated apartments/condos for rent. You might consider that. St Pete has nice places, and you'd commute to Tampa for work and use the Skyway bridge to get down to Bradenton/Sarasota - not too long of a drive. Good beaches in St Pete. Nightlife can be found in Ybor, Channelside downtown area of Tampa.

Upstate ny is pretty, especially in the summer, but the winters are rough. its not fun shoveling like 2 feet of snow almost everyday. I was looking at westshore, seems like a decent area to live in? not sure

Nice to meet you Anna! I've got family in Rochester and I'm living in Tampa/Working in Bradenton now. I will say this Tampa to Bradenton, or vice versa is NOT a drive i recommend at all. We're moving to St Pete this weekend because even with the low gas prices I need to fill up twice a week and I'm spending $100+ a week on gas. Westshore is good area for young people, there are bars and stuff near the Intl mall, as well as a lot of jobs near there. I had a friend who lived in the Post development out there, he liked it. Lots of young people. Hyde Park/South Tampa/Channelside are kind of the hot places for people under 30, but they aren't near the beach. Another friend of mine moved to clearwater with his wife, she drives up north and he drives into westshore for work, they like it a lot and its very centrally located. If you'd like to be closer to your friends in Sarasota, St Pete might be a good option for you. There's great nightlife there as well and its close to the beach.

Default How about Clearwater?

Clearwater is close to some great beached, close to Ybor and I275 runs through Pinellas County which gets you to Sarasota in about an hour and a half. St. Pete is pretty good, too. Though you need to scope out the area first - the bad parts are pretty bad.

hi anna128 , westshore is a nice area, however it is an expensive place to live. kcgator is right about a lot of the areas to live for night life etc... i have lived in the tampabay area for almost 39yrs , have to warn you all of those areas are quite high in crime , especially st. pete ..
clearwater has some of the best beaches in there area and crime there is not quite as high. hope you are ready for the heat , hotter than blue blazes here.
