I am thinking of relocating to the Brandon/Tampa area this summer. I am a 33 year old single mom with a 13 year old daughter. I have a very good friend who lives in Brandon and I am tired of the harsh winters living in Alaska. I have a fair amount of money saved enough to live off for about 6-8 months but I keep reading about how hard it is to find a job. I worked in hotel and waited tables much of my younger life but have been doing medical office billing for the last 7 years, before that I was the receptionist. I am thinking that with the snowbirds and the aging population there would be a lot of medical office jobs. I look at craigslist and the newspapers and I do seem to see openings but then I keep reading how there will be hundreds of applicants.

Anyone have any thoughts or advice? Thanks in advance!

I am not an expert on the area, but the medical field is very big in the Florida area and for most areas in general. Also, just try to stay positive, I realize that sounds like a cliche, but there is a point to it. There are a lot of Hospitals in Florida and also because of the elderly population there are a lot of medical and varied type jobs there. I am sure other posters are more knowledgeable in this area, as I only lived there for a year, but this is apparent there. Good luck.

There are tons of doctors offices here. I'm not really familiar with the Brandon side but I can tell you that the Tampa/St. Petersburg/Clearwater has a lot of offices. I'd find it hard to believe that you couldn't find an opening somewhere in there.

Attitude is really everything. Good luck.

Look at the Baycare website, they do most of the large hospital billing in Tampa.
