My husband and I, in our late 20's, are thinking about moving from Miami to Tampa and we wanted to know everyone's opinion on the area. What areas are good for families? What are some good schools (elementary)? Were looking to rent and pay no more than $1100 for 3+ bedrooms. Were still trying to look for jobs but wanted to know what area to focus on. Thanks!

Once you have a job then you can focus on the area unless you don't mind driving an hour or more each way just to get to and from work. Most areas are 'family' areas even S. Tampa which is also where most young professionals live

South Tampa has great amenities and is close to most everything. Most rent is reasonable so long as you aren't looking to be spoiled or in luxury, its on the upper end of most people's budgets but its that way for a reason...you get what you pay for. It also (thankfully) doesn't have that 'cookie cutter' suburban feel. However, if you DO see yourself in the suburbs, this is not your neighborhood. The plus is you will be around many young professionals and young kids in the Hyde Park neighborhood. That neighborhood is also home to a great public Elementary School (Gory)

However, unemployment in Florida as you know is truly horrible and as the above poster said, until you find a job, that really is the only way you can focus on your 'target area' because commutes in Tampa can be problematic, though coming from Miami they are likely nothing that you aren 't used to.

We are broward and are looking to move up to tampa. We looked at Wesley Chapel and its really nice up there, new communities, shopping etc. Everyone we talked to that lived there was so nice and friendly, lots of families. You can rent a house up there for that price. I found lots of places for $1200.

Oh and the schools seem to be much better there than they are here. Go to momslikeme.com There is a section for Tampa and lots of moms on there that can give advice on the schools and areas.

You can get that in Miami, or broward area.
