You're right about one thing... There isn't a down town Tampa. There's a Downtown Tampa, and it seems to be fine for kids with the children's museum, the aquarium, and various parks!

I live in Seattle and I just did a big road trip though much of FL searching for a place to spend a few months in winter, and I really liked downtown St. Petes. It might be the only place I could see myself living in the entire state of FL.. I did not get to explore Tampa thoroughly so I can't fully comment. I did see Ybor though and I like downtown St. Pete's much better. St. Pete's seems like it's in the beginning stages of what could be Florida's first true hip walk-able type area.

As you are into abbreviating the city name just St Pete will do.
To the op/ how did it work out? did you discover that St Pete and Tampa are 2 separate cities that are some distance apart?.

Ybor City and Downtown St. Pete are two completely different areas. I don't even know why you'd compare the two.

People compare them because everyone says they are both walkable.

No way. There are other areas of Florida that are way more hip and walkable than Downtown St. Pete. Sounds like you just haven't searched hard enough.

If you make a claim, you should follow it up with examples.
