I love this forum! Thank you everyone for all the useful information. We are moving to Tampa area from CT right after Labor Day. We are planning to stay one week at a extended stay place and look for a place to rent, a 3 bedroom apartment/house.
My husband's job is in Dunedin and we have no children. We do not want to drive to far, since we have a 50 mile commute now.
We are thinking to rent something around Clearwater, Dunedin, Palm Harbor. Are those places nice? Can anyone suggest any area? Condo? How safe are the areas? I would like a place that has no issues with hurricanes. We would like to rent something for 7-12 months and then buy something after living there for a while.
Thank you for any suggestions

There are very nice places around Dunedin, including Dunedin itself, among them are Oldsmar,Palm Harbor,Safety Harbor. Like anywhere else, there's very nice areas, and all kinds of places, most of all apts (called condos here) and townhouses for rent in these areas. There is a posting here from somebody who went to see houses with a real estate group who says she liked what she got from them. Feel free to PM me for any thing I can help with. I live in Oldsmar and I really like it here.

Thank you ancnie. I read the posting you mentioned and I have contacted them already.
I looked at Oldsmar as a possibility but could you tell me if the commute to Dunedin is ok?

The commute to Dunedin from Oldsmar should take you about 15 minutes on a normal day. That area is primarily residential so you wouldn't be on any highways. The general area surrounding Dunedin is a predominately middle class residential area, there aren't really any bad neighborhoods in that area. You should probably look at north Clearwater, Dunedin, Oldsmar, Countryside, Safety Harbor, Palm Harbor, or Westchase. Any of those areas would give you a commute to Dunedin of 30 minutes or less.

Where in Dunedin will your husband be working? Will you be employed as well? Dunedin (old downtown area) itself is cute and trendy and is close to the intracostal. As far as hurricanes go, the entire Tampa Bay area is considered "one" and Dunedin won't be any different than Palm Harbor, Oldsmar, or St. Pete.....plus we haven't really had any issues with storms for a couple of years now. No one knows for sure about those storms, but the Tampa Bay area in general has been very lucky for a very long time....

There are many great deals around now due to the fact that the real estate market is more of a buyers' market, and many condos/homes/townhomes that were for sale are also available to be rented. The Countryside area of Clearwater is very nice and safe. Downtown Dunedin is nice. St. Pete seems to be hot right now for younger couples who are buying older homes and renovating them with a new, modern flair. There are also some cute bungalow homes in Clearwater, not far from the beaches.

I'd be glad to answer any other questions for you....let me know what you are looking for!
