Hi there,
Currently I live in London, England.. I will be moving out to Tampa in January with my girlfriend.
I have absoultely no idea what so ever what to expect and where to stay!?! I was hoping someone could be so so kind and inform me the best places to rent/own that are of a nice nature..
We want to rent for 6 months then look to buy a house after that.
I was also wondering what taxes are like in the States, Insurance, traffic in tampa etc...??
My new offices will be down E.Jackson St.. so want to be out of the hussle bussle but not too far away that it takes like a year to drive into work!?
I hope someone can shed some light for me.

Martin

Default Moving To Tampa

I will be relocating to Tampa in June. I'm in the Marines and will be stationed at MacDill AFB. I'm looking for suggestions on where to live. I'm looking for good schools without a the monster commute. I was thinking clearwater area/St Pete/ etc.. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I'm also looking to rent, possibly buy a house.

Suggestions on where to live without the monster commute, have you considered living in South Tampa? There are MANY people that work at MacDill(both civilian and service) and live in South Tampa, six on my block alone. Check out zipcodes 33611 and 33616. Many also live out in Brandon/Riverview area(about a 25-30 minute commute), and also in areas of St. Pete(Gandy and 4th street, Gateway, Riviera Bay area), but you'd have to cross the bridge daily(about a 25 minute commute)

Definitely try to stay in South Tampa if the Prices work for you. As a Realtor, I can tell you a little about taxes and insurance, but there are many unknowns right now. The Taxes will be changed slightly with the passage of the new Amendment, but for you it will not mean too much. These days I tell people property taxes will be about 2% of the purchase price per year. This will get you within a few hundred a year of what the actual taxes will be. Also look at http://www.hcpafl.org/www/index.shtml where you can find specific taxes on specific properties. The insurance really depends on the property, but on a $200-400,000 house you can expect anywhere from $3,500-5,000 per year (very generalized). Any more in depth than that you would need to call an insurance person. If you need more info feel free to ask!
