I've been living in Clearwater for over a year, and I've had Brighthouse cable/internet combo. My cost just went up from $112/mo to $118/mo for basic cable, 10mbps internet, and dvr. I've decided that I'm dropping cable all together since I really don't watch it. So I just need the internet.

The Brighthouse internet-only plans seem a bit pricey ($52 for 10mbps, $67 for 20mbps, $82 for 40mbps). I don't know of many other alteratives to internet. I can't get Verizon FIOS where I live (apartment complex). I don't want satellite. I know there are some other companies out there (Clear), but I don't know of their reliability. Does anyone have any suggestions or is Brighthouse my best bet? Thanks!

All the providers charge an unnecessarily high rate for internet only and force you into one of their bundles. All of Bright House's plans are going up significantly on March 1.

significantly? Most increases are about 1-2 dollars and they have promotions running right now that are pretty freaking good.

also, your not going to find stand alone internet much cheaper for what you get. Clear isnt cheap either but its the great sprint "4g" service with low data caps. Any cell company is the same as clear (worse usually) and FIOS isnt going to be much cheaper (if at all) for JUST internet service.

By the way OP, if you have a DVR you dont have basic cable, you have "digital cable" which includes well over 100 hd channels, all of the on demand access and however many digital channels are included (everything accept premium movie channels, sports pass and hdpack). "basic cable" refers to standard analog which is 2-99

I just got my bill, it explains everything. Yes, it's 1-2$, but that's 1-2$ per item on your bill: IE: your basic service is going up 1-2$, every box you have is going up 1-2$, every DVR you have is going up 1-2$... this **** all adds up.

It's 2012, you shouldnt have to be paying $60/month for internet access.

Good point, I still stand with my words of the good promotions though.. Just gotta call in and ask!

also, I THINK that if your in a promotion already you wont see an increase in your rates until your promo expires, at which time you will call and get yourself into another promo thats going on

I too agree that 60 a month these days is high. Its crazy that in a market with fierce competition the rates are still that high too, someones either making a lot of money or there are a lot of costs that arent visible to the rest of us?????

Honestly, for the price of stand alone internet you can pay like 20 bucks a month more (maybe less) and have digital cable with a LOT more things to watch than what the streaming services offer.

If your looking to save any buck you can, sure you will save but your not really coming out on top if you actually like to watch tv (my opinion personally).

I'm actually going to Fios. They did a door to door thing in my neighborhood and have a hell of a promotion going on.

I'd rather not have to call-in every 6 months to renegotiate a deal. Unless they can offer me cable, dvr, and internet for $70/mo, I'm getting rid of cable. I don't watch tv, except through my dvr, which feels like a chore sometimes to weed it out. Its not even worth even $20 extra to me to keep it.
