Hi user8, you will probably be a lot happier about living in Tampa once you move to a better area. I have found that the right house in the right neighborhood makes all the difference in one's happiness.

I do agree with Keeper, you can hear those 'copters anywhere if they are looking for someone on foot.

regarding the ghetto bird, one night we were awakened by what sounded like a helicopter landing in our yard. i run outside and see the police chopper hovering at what seemed in my groggy stupor like treetop level with a spotlight scanning north boulevard. stayed there for a good 5 or so minutes. just about everyone came outside and wondered what the hell was going on. found out later they were looking for a guy suspected of breaking into several houses.

I live right down the street from Oro Valley which is suppose to be a nice area of Tucson and it has even gone down hill since I moved here. Its the same as living just about anywhere else. You can move to a nicer part of a town but eventually its going to start having it problems as well. It only takes a few to start bringing an area down. When I lived in Pa I moved to a quiet little town outside of Allentown. It was the perfect area. Now five years later since I moved out of Pa and to AZ the nice little town is now just like living in Allentown.

I live in the Spring Hill area and copters and cops on 4-wheelers go out periodically to scare off 4-wheelers and party-hardy mud boggers that trash the trails that are on vacant land out here where many people go horsebackriding or walking(they are fine with these folks, as they don't make noise or dump beer bottles, etc.) The Hood, no, Red Necks, well, yes, a few........

You're not stating a fact, you're stating assumptions. You assumed OP lives in the ghetto. Just like I assume I'll see disdain and animosity any time I see the username "crazynip" on City Data.

I stay in Orlando. I assure you this is because of crime because they do the samething here in several neighborhoods. I remember I use to always think the were looking for the same person every single night at the same time. I would go asking questions like. "Why not look for this fool in the daytime?"
"Or damn He's hiding better than Osama" but then I say hey, most people are not in or near a vehicle when they commit a crime, plus helicopters move faster and can search a wider area than the human eye especially using the heat vision models like central florida choppers do.

No helicopters hovering above my house sorry. I have seen the Met-Life Blimp float right over my house.... that was fun. I do have several planes flying over my house.

They're not real loud but you can hear them. Which is great because it makes me feel like I don;t have to be so quiet at night when I have company over and we're hot tubbing, swimming or watching movies outside.

I think it is a good deterrent, and makes the criminals think twice about committing crimes.
