Ok, I know I posted this on the main FL forum but I see people on the Tampa forum who are interested in moving to Florida and are concerned about good school districts.

I was curious about what the school rankings were for the entire state. A few days ago I asked my daughter's teacher if she had the list and this is what she sent home.

The rankings are determined by the percentage of A schools, the percentage of students meeting the state's highest standard for reading ability, reading comprehension, writing, math, and science, and the overall FCAT scores. Apparently they are changing the grading criteria for this school year and making it more difficult so next year's list may look a lot different.

This list is for the 2006-07 school year. The number is the rank, the name is the county, the letter is the overall grade given to the school district.

I'm not an expert by any means, but my assumption would be that counties encompassing major cities would contain scores that vary from higher to failing grades. Obviously, there are socioeconomic factors that might lower the scores because of students that face different types of home environments. Hillsborough, for example, has some of the highest and lowest in the state. Sarasota, however, should have a much more consistent list of scores.

Hi, I am a Wisconsin resident planning on moving to the Florida area, for the person who made this list of top schools, what cities are these top schools located in, mainly elementary schools?

The names on the list are not individual schools, they are the counties in Florida. Each county is an individual school district rather than cities having their own school districts. Some of the counties, such as Gilchrist, are pretty rural and don't really have a major city. Here are the A districts with some of their cities. Some are rural and have a relatively small population. If you are interested in any of the other counties I didn't list, just Google them. Here are the major cities in Florida and their counties: Miami is in Dade Co., Orlando is in Orange Co., Tampa is in Hillsborough Co., Clearwater and St. Petersburg are in Pinellas Co., Jacksonville is in Duval Co., Pensacola is in Escambia Co.

1. Okaloosa - A: Fort Walton Beach, Shalimar, Destin, Crestview, Niceville, Valparaiso, Mary Esther.

2. Gilchrist - A: Rural

3. Brevard - A: Titusville, Cocoa, Melbourne, Merritt Island, Palm Bay, Malabar

4. Martin - A: Rural

5. St. Johns - A: Ponte Vedra, St. Augustine, Palatka

6. Santa Rosa - A: Navarre, Gulf Breeze, Milton, Pace

7. Seminole - A: Altamonte Springs, Oviedo, Casselberry, Winter Springs, Deltona (suburbs of Orlando)

8. Sarasota - A: Sarasota, Venice, North Port

9. Charlotte - A: Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda

10. Nassau - A: Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island

11. Wakulla - A: Rural

12. Clay - A: Rural

13. Palm Beach - A: Jupiter, Riviera Beach, West Palm Beach, Wellington, Greenacres, Lake Worth, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Boca Raton

14. Monroe - A: The Keys (Key West, Big Pine, Islamorada, Key Largo, Marathon, etc.)

15. Alachua - A: Gainesville

16. Walton - A: Miramar Beach, Freeport, DeFuniak Springs, Santa Rosa Beach

Actually, Palatka is not in St. Johns County (ranked 5th) but is in Putnam County (ranked 52nd!). Putnam County's school system leaves something to be desired.
