Hi Everyone - I know this thread hasn't been updated in YEARS...but we are actually thinking of retiring here to Florida... and yes.. that sounds politically crazy, but... change has to start with us. So... I'd like an update on peoples opinions about the mobile home parks that were mentioned... Blue Jay Estates, Briar Cliff, Gullaire? Any others? We are a lesbian couple who have been married for 8 years but together for 16. We don't need much, just acceptance to live our lives... :-)

Thanks all!

Nobody cares who you are or what you do as long as you are contributing member of society. What the people in Florida do care about is you wanting to move here, presumably because you think you like Florida, and then trying to change it. We are fine just like we are.

I'll avoid the political part, but just want to let you know a little about mobile home parks, hurricanes, evacuations, etc.

Just keep in mind that mobile homes are always included under any storm-related evacuation order, regardless of the specified zone (A,B,C,D,E) for the adjacent area. If there is any storm-related evacuation order, it will ALWAYS include you in a mobile home.

Now that the trolls are done, I'll say this:

St. Pete will be your best best for acceptance, not that you wouldn't be elsewhere. It's just a more socially liberal area, that's all.

While this might sound kind of judgy, it's not intended to be that way, just an observation:

The lower the socioeconomic area, the more likely you are to encounter bias. That's pretty much across the board, no matter where you go.

There aren't many mobile home parks in the eastern or southern part of Hillsborough County that I am familiar with, and the ones I do know of are older and a bit dated. Most have age requirements, but I'm assuming since you're using the "R" word that isn't an issue.

The only real negative about Pinellas County is the location, especially as it relates to weather-related issues. That and as others have mentioned, if there's a hurricane, you're going to be evacuating, no question about it.

Good luck!
