Flying into Tampa Airport and then driving to Disney. Looks like a straight shot on I-4 both ways, is this a toll road? Car rental company is looking to sell me SunPass/Pass24 device but will decline if not needed. Thanks in advance.

Interstate 4 between Tampa and Orlando is not a toll road. However if you are going to be driving around the greater Orlando area for a few days I would recommend the Sun Pass as Orlando has a ton of toll roads. If you are mainly going to just go between your hotel and Disney once you arrive in Orlando you probably won't need a Sun Pass.

Thanks to both of you for your input.

We will be staying on Disney property so will only be driving from the airport to Disney and back.

I know most of the drive is I-4 but I know I will be on some other roads very breifly while I get on/off I-4.

Are there any other tolls that I would hit between Tampa Airport and I-4? Or between I-4 and Disney?

Nope. No tolls. Carry a little change in case you take a turn somewhere you're not supposed to. Most tolls are .50, 1.00 or 1.25. Either way, they have a someone in there to give you change.

From my experience, the rental companies will upsell anything to make more money.

Good advice to carry change.

I ran into some tolls while working in Orlando for a week in September that were unattended. You had two options: exact change or SunPass.

Why fly to Tampa and not Orlando? Form Orlando Disney even has their own buses that can bring you on the property, and the distance it a lot shorter. From Tampa airport you will have to drive 1 1/2 to get to Disney.

Shhhhhhh! Why are you trying to have this person fly into Orlando and rent a car from Orlando... when you live in Tampa???? You do understand this person will be paying an airport tax... which goes to Tampa, will be paying for a rental car.... while in Tampa that helps with jobs and that rental car also has taxes which helps Tampa.

We need all the help we can get.

Also... OP - be sure to check out Busch Gardens... especially if you are into Roller Coasters. It's a great Coaster Park.

LOL....From a "traveler" point of view, and considering that when someone is vacationing they don't have "extra time to loose driving around", I just didn't see the sense in flying into Tampa to go to Orlando, and rent a car too, when Disney has buses from Orlando airport which eliminates the need of a car rental all together since they'll be housed on Disney property, where they also have buses, and the Monorail to get places, plus the boats.

The OP did not specify how much time they'll be here for...and said they'll stay on Disney property...which to me it sounds like a Disney trip only (at least this time around).

PS I can assure you that "Tampa's local economy" is the LAST thing on a tourist mind! LOL

I-4 will soon become a toll road if Gov Rick Scott has his way!
