The only time the roof would be open here in Tampa would be in early April, late September. The rest of the season would be unbearable and is one of the several reasons why the Bucs don't draw as well because of the sweltering heat in September/October.

I've never really listened to the lyrics - now I will. I think the Rays did have a Christian Rock Group play last year - didn't draw well.

Totally agree. Any game at rayjay before November feels like you're in a sauna.

There would be no point in building a retractable dome baseball stadium here, unless it would somehow be cheaper than a solid roof, which it isn't.

Sure, if you want to add $10 million+ in construction costs for a roof that's closed 80% of the time.

Wow - Braves have a decent stadium and aren't stuck to a longterm lease like the Rays have been......Turner field is still relatively nice, at least the last time I was there.

Atlanta Braves leaving Turner Field for suburban ballpark
The Associated Press

Published: November 11, 2013

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves are leaving Turner Field and moving into a new 42,000-seat, $672 million stadium complex in suburban Cobb County in 2017.

Braves executives John Schuerholz, Mike Plant and Derek Schiller said Monday that the team decided not to seek another 20-year lease at Turner Field and began talks with the Cobb Marietta Coliseum and Exhibit Hall Authority in July.

The infrastructure at Turner Field was originally built for the 1996 Summer Olympics before being converted to a baseball park that opened in 1997.

The stadium will be part of a 60-acre development near Cobb Galleria mall.

Plant says talks broke down with the Atlanta Fulton County Recreational Authority earlier this year. He adds that the team has not signed a contract with Cobb County, but he’s “100 percent certain it will happen.”

Schiller says financing will come from the Braves and the Cobb County government. The team will be responsible for any cost overruns.

BucFan, I was just coming here to post about our AL ROY and the developments of the Braves stadium...which is frustrating as a Rays fan.

I'm going to start a new 2014 Rays thread and feature this information since it is relevant to next season and we can post updates/signings/releases/stadium news there too.

What do you say?
