Hi,
I am a 27 yr old Indian male planning to move to Tampa some time next yr. I lived in Tampa earlier for 6 months (escaped the heat)...and really liked it there. Since I travel a lot for my work I would like a place I could come back and relax, and offcourse be laid back.
I want to know if Tampa is a better option than Reno to move. I can pretty much move anywhere in the US, but I want to stick to tax-free states.

I want feedback on how well I would be accepted in Tampa as opposed to Reno. I am open-minded and looking to date outside my own race. Tampa has a good nightlife and adult club scene. But beyond that I am not sure about the people here.

Right now I live in Cary,NC which SUCKS bigtime. The people here are all racist and stick to themselves. Even my negihbours keep their noses up in the air. But this place is very safe, clean and beautiful and BORING.

Is Tampa safe and fun?

Why Tampa or Reno? Just seem like odd choices. What are you looking for in a city?
My boyfriend is Indian and moved to Tampa with me (I'm Caucasian). He did not have any problems with racism within the city, yet missed the large Indian community that he had in Chicago (he wasn't super into that back in Chicago, but I guess missed it when he was gone). For a town in the South, Tampa seemed fine in terms of accepting us as an inter-racial couple.

Tampa is a big melting pot,you should not encounter any racism here, many hispanics, blacks, whites, asians, carribeans, etc all flow together,it makes it a great city, and if you like latin women your in for a treat.

There are quite a few indians in the tampa bay area. You shouldn't have any problems here.

Well, basically I'm looking for a state where there is no state tax, and I don't want to go anywhere really up north where it is too cold like New Hampshire or something. I enjoy places where inter-racial couples are accepted and more possible. I am looking to date outside my race.
Weather is also an important factor though. I know that Tampa doesn't have any kind of winter but Reno does have a winter which I think is mostly without the snow. I like a little cold. I also enjoy the beaches and the cosmopolitan nature of miami. Yes, I like latin women!
So it's a choice between the beach and the vast open mountains. But CA has beaches too which can compensate I guess. Anyway, still not sure.

Reno is in the mountains. It gets very cold and has lots of snow in the winter. If you dislike cold weather, I don't think you will be happy there, at least not in the winter. The summers are very nice. Otherwise, it is a very nice town.

No place in the US has "no tax". States that have no or low income tax usually sock it to you with other taxes, like property tax (which you pay indirectly if you rent), sales tax, auto registration, etc. Nevada is the only state I know with no income OR sales tax, because of the gambling revenue. Check out all the taxes before you make a decision.

I like Reno. I've visited there once for a week. The two cities are very different. Reno has the small western town feel, although it has a large university, airport, and of course gambling/casinos. Lake Tahoe is a beautiful place closeby - great for skiing and Summertime h20 sports. I lived in Tampa for several years and visit yearly, and I've gotten tired of it. Other than sports events, nice winter weather, and some of the performing arts that come to town, I can live elsewhere. I'm a little older than yourself, and "adult" clubs aren't my scene, but Reno has that, of course - Tampa's "adult" clubs are along Dale Mabry, next to K-mart.

I'd go to Reno - whatever race you may be. Too bad that's still an issue in USA.

RE: weather. It snows a lot in the mountains, but I think the valley is relatively snow free.

So looks like Reno seems the better option. How are the summers? Since the valley is close to the mountains I don't think summers are as harsh as like in vegas..right?

The one summer that I spent a week, it was warm, but not uncomfortable. Tampa, on the other hand, is sweltering to the point of being miserable. Of course the winter weather from Nov-March is outstanding in FLA.
