One of my family members got stuck in traffic in Tampa and she was with her front wheels over the white stripe and the light turned to yellow so she moved but it was slow and her back wheels went over the white stripes when the ligh turned red. She stayed where she was and never moved further until the light turned green.

Sh did call the red light violaton department and they stated they look at all images and if she didn't cross than she probably won't get a ticket but it is up the the police officer who will check the images.

Has anybody been in this situation? What was the result?

What do you think white lines are there for?

In other cities they have boxes painted in the intersection, and getting a ticket for being stuck in the box is pretty common, no excuses.

If she wants to spend the time and effort she could try to fight the ticket.no guarantee of success..
Those white lines are there for a reason its to prevent intersections from becoming jammed with
cars getting stuck in the middle of an intersection when the light turns red and they still cant move, the courteous thing to do and probably the legal thing to do is dont cross the white line if you cant make it through the intersection.

The white lines are called "stop bars" for a reason. If you cross one you are considered to be in the intersection.

In my experience, the red light cameras take two quick pics and they show the distance elapsed within a few milliseconds. My guess is that one of two things will happen- either she won't get the ticket because there was no "real" movement, or she will but can fight it if the two pictures show no real distance elapsed.

They do take 3 photos (or at least they did to my daughter who got a ticket) I have had this happen to me and I have not had a ticket, as I did not proceed. Hope they dont.

Thanks for the answers. Per teh red light violation department they stated that more than one picture will be taken, so indeed it seems she will have to wait and see what the officer decides to do.

That we have to wait in front of the white line is a given but there are occasions that you get stuck because it seems cars are driving and you pull up and all of sudden they stop....

I hope for her that since she didn't cross the intersection and stayed until the light turned green again will not result in a ticket and otherwise she probably will show up in court to fight it and see what will happen.
