I'm curious...if you moved here from out of state, what made you choose TB over all the other cities in FL? Or, all other cities in the US in general...

How did you decide that TB was the place for you?

I'm a Florida native who chose the Tampa Bay area when moving back, though was unable to actually due to family commitment in Central Florida. I really like the St Pete/St Pete Beach area specifically as it reminds much of the Florida I grew up with in the 60s and 70s. It feels Old Florida-like largely with the architecture and topography, plus I find the people nicer there than the varying other places I know of from living in the state for 30+ years.

The greater Tampa Bay area has about the most diverse assortment of lifestyles of any major metro: urban, new suburbia, old suburbs, beach towns, riverside, bayside, small town, rural. For us, the water, birds fishing, fish jumping, dolphins, seashells, beaches, weather, seafood, watersports...

Honestly, because that is where my job offer was.

While that is the truth, I had other options outside Florida. But I lives on the East Coast of Florida before acceptign this new job and decided I liked the West Coast. warmer, prettier, less prone to hurricanes. And Tampa is a great mix of a decent choice of things to do without being too large. There are outdoor activities, professional sports, thater and othre live events. It's just a nice mix of lots of different aspect s of life.

I moved here from Atlanta about 11 years ago. I chose Tampa Bay because I wanted a city with a large enough industrial base to find a job. And it was quite easy to find a job , once I moved here. i thought about Orlando, but I wanted to be close to the beach and Miami was out because I wanted to live somewhere that was less hispanic.

Sure, i'd love to live in Destin or some of the other smaller beach towns, but if you gotta work for a living, places like that are out.

In the latter case, ya'll have just been lucky.

But it is true that living east of the bay does buffer you from the worst of the impact.

What marcopolo said... also, I prefer the more family-friendly and laid back environment than SouthEast Florida (where I lived when I was in my 20s).
